Steve Ryan joined CP24 in 2017 as a crime analyst and reporter, where he draws upon his extensive law enforcement background to deliver incisive analysis and compelling coverage of crime-related stories across the GTHA and beyond. He started his career with the Toronto Police Service at the early age of 18, and rapidly ascended the ranks to assume the role of Detective Sergeant in the Homicide Unit, where he tackled high-profile criminal cases and championed the rights of victims. After serving in law enforcement for thirty years, Steve retired in 2017 and moved smoothly into his current full-time role at CP24. Motivated by a desire to share with the public his vast understanding of criminal investigations, he has received recognition for his empathetic reporting style and aptitude at demystifying complex cases. Furthermore, Steve is a versatile reporter who excels at covering big sporting events and a range of local interest stories in addition to covering crimes. Steve has achieved notable success as a published writer, best known for his autobiography, "The Ghosts That Haunt Me: Memories of a Homicide Detective." Based in Toronto, Steve remains dedicated to delivering comprehensive crime reporting across the Greater Toronto Area, enriching viewers' understanding of the intricacies of the criminal justice system.
